Public hearings on the State Service (Pensions) Bill, which seeks to establish a State-managed retirement fund for public service workers, will be conducted from February 24 to 28, the Parliament of Zimbabwe has announced.

The proposed law will create a State Service Pension Fund, a retirement savings scheme that will provide pensions, gratuities and other benefits to Government employees upon retirement, discharge, resignation or death.

The fund will be financed through mandatory contributions from both public sector workers and the Government and will cover all civil servants, including military personnel and police officers.

In a statement, Parliament said: “The Portfolio Committee on Public Services, Labour and Social Welfare will conduct public hearings on the State Service (Pensions) Bill from February 24 to 28.

“The committee is divided into two teams that will cover all ten provinces in line with His Excellency, the President’s mantra of leaving no one and no place behind.”

The hearings will allow civil servants, stakeholders and the public to give input on the Bill before it is debated in Parliament.
