CHIPINGE schools have been implored to work with all stakeholders to fight disasters that continue to plague the district.

The call was made by Manicaland Provincial Education Director, Mr Richard Gabaza during a training workshop for teachers from disaster prone schools at Chipinge Primary School yesterday.

“The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education is saying no one should be left behind in disaster risk management. As school authorities, know all stakeholders in your area. These include village heads, councillors, village health workers, development partners and all Government arms.

“Ensure that you work with them in compiling your Disaster Risk Reduction Plans.
Education cannot and must not stop in emergencies,” said Mr Gabaza as he gave reference to the recent Covid-19 pandemic that resulted in schools closing.

Speaking during the same event representative of the Chipinge Civil Protection Unit, Mr Tedious Beto who is the Assistant District Development Co-ordinator said: “It is important that as educators you should be aware of common hazards in your communities. This enables you to plan and prepare for disasters.”

Chipinge is prone to many hazards including droughts, cyclones, earth tremors, floods and human and wildlife conflicts.

The awareness campaign was facilitated by the Department of Civil Protection and Higher Life Foundation.
