JUST IN: Christmas Pass accident claims one

ONE person died on the spot when a vehicle that was travelling in the opposite direction along Christmas Pass curves veered off the road and landed on the roof of his Honda Fit vehicle and trapped him inside.

 

Police confirmed the accident, but could not release the name of the deceased.

 

According to witnesses, the Vauxhall vehicle was travelling towards Mutare on the upper lane and the driver lost control.

 

It veered off the road and flew to the opposite lane and landed on top of the Honda Fit.

 

“The Vauxhall vehicle failed to negotiate the curves and flew to the lower lane. It landed on top of the Honda Fit that was travelling in the opposite direction. The driver was trapped and died on the spot,” said a witness, Mr Felix Chamhembe.

 

Police attended the scene and the body was conveyed to Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital.

 

The driver of the Vauxhall and his passenger sustained minor injuries and were also ferried to the hospital.
