PLAYERS in the agriculture sector should invest in research that provides solutions to the country’s food production, Vice President Dr Constantino Chiwenga has said.

Speaking during the inaugural Research for Agricultural Excellence Indaba in Harare on Thursday, VP Chiwenga urged players in the sector to transform the agricultural landscape by harnessing the power of research.

“There is a need for research that provides solutions to our production and productivity challenges, animal diseases as well as increased revenue generation through import substitution,” he said.

“It is my conviction that all we need is pragmatic research that informs the policies and programmes that will shape the future of this agriculture sector.”

The event was running under the theme “Research and Innovative Solutions for Sustainable Agribusiness Development”.
