TOBACCO farmers have been urged to intensify land preparations ahead of the 2024/2025 summer cropping season.
The season is likely to experience normal to above-normal rains associated with the La Nina weather phenomenon.
Ngoni Chikerema, the director of the Zimbabwe Tobacco Farmers Association (ZITOFA), said tobacco farmers should be making the final land preparations.
“Some farmers will be planting their crops in September, with others doing so in October. By now, the farmers should be finalising their land preparations,” he said.
“The farmers should make sure that the tobacco barns are functional and that the wood for curing the crop is ready.
“Planting in time matches the best growing conditions. Early planting is the best.”
