NEW: Rising cases of baby dumping worry police

POLICE in Bulawayo are looking for information on the whereabouts of a person who dumped a two-week-old baby boy in a gravel pit at Emagodini in Pumula South on Sunday.

In a statement, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) said:

“Police in Bulawayo are investigating a case of exposing an infant in which a baby boy (approximately two-weeks-old) was found in a gravel pit at Emagodini, Pumula South, on November 13, 2022.

“The baby was wearing a diaper only and was placed in a plastic paper.”

In a related matter, ZRP Western Commonage is looking for information and the identity of a person who also dumped a two-week-old baby in Bulawayo.

“ZRP Western Commonage is investigating a case of exposing an infant in which a baby boy (approximately two-weeks-old) was found wrapped in a cream-and-red blanket along a railway line near Matshobane ground, Bulawayo on November 12, 2022,” said ZRP.

Police said the babies have since been admitted at local hospitals.
