South African Airways (SAA) has announced an increase in flight frequencies on the Johannesburg-Harare route, raising the number of weekly flights from 10 to 12 effective November 5.
In an interview with The Sunday Mail Online, country manager Julia Rewayi said the strategic move was in response to the growing number of travellers between the two cities.
“Increasing our flight frequency on the Johannesburg-Harare route is a testament to our commitment to meeting the evolving needs of our customers.
“The demand is driven by the growing ties between South Africa and Zimbabwe, and we are excited to facilitate this connectivity, which is crucial for business and tourism,” she said.
She said this increase in the number of flights aligns with SAA’s densification strategy, aimed at bolstering operations in the African region, an area that is pivotal for the airline’s growth.
“The rising demand for flights is attributed to several factors, including the movement of Zimbabwean expatriates, a surge in tourism, and heightened trade relations between South Africa and Zimbabwe. Further growth in travel and trade is anticipated,” she said.
Rewayi added that SAA remains committed to providing reliable and convenient travel options for its customers, ensuring that the airline meets the evolving needs of the region.
SAA has been a dominant player in the Johannesburg-Harare route for over two decades.
