INNOVATION, creativity and hunger for success appear to be paying off for the new school of musicians whose appeal is now irresistible.
This was evident at the Zima 2023 winners’ podium where youthful musicians dominated the night at 7 Arts Theatre on Saturday.
The likes of Leo Magozz, Ishan, Nutty O and Saintfloew are simply unstoppable.
Zima 2023’s biggest winner, Freeman HKD, has also proved all doubters wrong and deserves his seat among the elite.
He went home with four gongs – Song of the Year, Best Male, Best Album and Best Zim Dancehall.
A firm believer in hard work and creativity, the HKD boss vowed to continue working hard.
“I was humbled after winning four awards at Zima 23 which means a lot to us. I won’t stop working because I have realised the power of hard work.
“Whether I win more awards in future or not, I will continue working hard and right now I am currently in the studio as we speak.
“I dedicate this award to my loyal fans who have been there for me over the years,” he said.
Similar sentiments were echoed by Feli Nandi who won two awards – Best Female and Best Alternative.
“Resilience and focus do pay and we will remain committed to our work. We are ready to conquer and we are not stopping.
“I can only promise my fans more music and more fun in 2023,” she said.
While event organisers did their best in making sure that event lived up to expectations, a number of winners sent representatives to the awards ceremony.
A number of artists were reported to have been committed to live shows and could not be available for the ceremony.
Others had no representatives at all, an area which needs to be addressed.
On a positive note, Nama rewarded a number of youthful musicians whose music was released between January 1 to December 31, 2022.
Legendary music producer Tymon “White Horse” Mabaleka was honoured posthumously with a lifetime achievement.
He was hailed for transforming and shaping careers of living legends who used to record at Gramma and ZMC Records.
He is credited with helping the likes of Lovemore Majaivana, Simon Chimbetu, Leonard Zhakata, Naison Chimbetu, Oliver “Tuku” Mtukudzi, among others.
