Government has constructed a new secondary school in Neta resettlement area in Mberengwa as part of its ongoing programme to enhance access to education in resettlement and other remote areas.
The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education recently announced that it would construct 2 000 schools.
This came after Cabinet ordered the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education to start the construction of 100 primary and secondary schools before the end of last year.
There is a deficit of 2056 schools in the country.
Government has targeted completion of the first 100 schools by March this year.
The state-of-the-art school is almost complete and President Mnangagwa is expected to open it soon.
Mberengwa North Member of Parliament, Cde Tafanana Zhou said the completion of Neta Secondary School will also improve the standards of education in the district.
“Government recently availed resources to construct Neta Secondary School in Neta resettlement area. The school will be one of the best in the district.
“The infrastructure and the learning facilities meet the standards of the best schools in the country.
“Children in the area were walking long distances to the nearest secondary schools. This shows the commitment of President Mnangagwa and his new administration to improve the quality of education in rural areas and the country at large,” he said.
In 2013, Government identified 2 056 places where it wanted to build schools. Most of these schools will be built in resettlement areas.
The ministry announced that it was also considering to partner investors in the construction of these schools.
The construction of the schools is also in line with Zim-Asset under the Social Services and Poverty Eradication Cluster where Government was seeking to improve the quality and increase access to education and training at all levels.
