ZVIMBA Rural District Council is in the process of registering a private company to boost its revenue base.

The company will be called Zvimba Chirorodziva (Private) Limited.

In an interview, Zvimba RDC chief executive Mr Peter Hlohla said the company was also meant to improve the agronomy sector in the district.

“We are working on the final touch-ups so that we can register this company. We aim to run quite a number of agriculture income-generating projects that will see farmers here also benefit in the use of machinery we will acquire through these ventures,” he said.

“We discovered that most farmers lacked equipment which has greatly affected their production.”

The local authority has proposed that $400 000 from its 2019 budget go towards the procurement of a combine harvester while another $200 000 would be spent on tillage equipment.

Mr Hlohla said funds to buy the equipment were available although procurement was being affected by foreign currency challenges.

“We anticipate to channel more funds to acquisition of more equipment so that we cover the whole district. The combine harvester is earmarked for the income- generating projects that will be running under the Zvimba Chirorodziva company. This will be working hand-in-hand with the tillage unit,” Mr Hlohla said.

Between January and October last year, Zvimba RDC collected $6 326 536,71 against its targeted budget of $4 410 081,50 surpassing its annual target by $1 916 455,21.

Besides generating revenue through the private company, Zvimba aims to boost its day-to-day revenue collections through promotional activities it had stopped last year due to the harmonised elections.
