PROSECUTOR General Justice Loice Matanda-Moyo has said the recently launched Sexual Harassment Policy by the Law Society of Zimbabwe is a step forward in combating the pervasive issue of sexual harassment in the legal profession.
The policy’s launch coincided with International Women’s Day celebrations on March 8.
Speaking during the launch in Harare, Justice Matanda-Moyo said:
“This policy is not just about protecting women; it is about protecting everyone.
“It is trite that sexual harassment is a stain on any profession, but it holds a particularly insidious power within the legal system.”
She said the problem of sexual harassment has loomed over the legal profession for a long time.
“This unacceptable behaviour creates a hostile environment, discourages talented individuals from pursuing legal careers, and undermines the very foundation of justice – fairness and dignity,” said the Prosecutor General.
“We will work closely with the Law Society to ensure that perpetrators are held accountable, but the fight against sexual harassment goes beyond the courtroom.”
