A 16-year-old footballer from Harare’s Southlea Park has impressed renowned South Africa-based scout Eric Bafana, who is now trying to make things happen for the teenage forward.
Joe Muchawaya of Blue Stars Academy can play anywhere in attack and was part of a group of Zimbabwean boys who were in South Africa recently.
Alimenda Stephen Academy (ASA) also sent several players for some youth games against SuperSport United, Cosmo City, Patrick Mdaziya Development, Randburg AFC and Midrand Satellite.
“It is clear there is a lot that needs to be done with these boys in the critical aspects of the game, but I was really impressed by this boy from Southlea Park,” Bafana told this publication.
Bafana is largely credited for playing a crucial role in facilitating Tino Kadewere’s move to Europe, when he joined Djugardens of Sweden in 2015.
He works for Diambers Academy in South Africa.
“Muchawaya really impressed in all the matches he played, he is a very good prospect,” said Bafana.
“I heard he is a student at Rusununguko, and I want to make things happen for the boy if he keeps working hard.”
The scout is also monitoring ASA player, Brandon Chigogo, a striker who was scouted in the rural areas.
“If groomed well, Brandon (Chigogo) can be a top striker. I have been stressing the point that these academies also need to do more in preparing these boys,” Bafana said.
Former Dynamos skipper, Stephen Alimenda is the director at ASA and he has been on a mission to unearth talent from rural areas.
