SOUTH KOREA will prioritise investments in agriculture, education and health in its development assistance partnership with Zimbabwe, as the two countries seek to further strengthen their bilateral relations.
This comes as the East Asian country marks 30 years of diplomatic ties with Zimbabwe and ahead of the first-ever Korea-Africa Summit that will be held in June this year.
On the sidelines of the 2024 Media Day on Tuesday, the Korean Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Mr Park Jae Kyung, said they were willing to offer support in the three key sectors.
“We always think the agriculture, health and education sectors are the main priority areas for that development assistance,” he said.
“We do not have any security issues, we do not have any challenging difficult issues, no history, religious or territorial issues. We can just focus on the economy and how to promote the trade investment relations bilaterally and in the sub-region.”
South Korea established diplomatic ties with Zimbabwe in 1984 and has lined up events throughout the year to mark the milestone.
The events began with the unveiling of a logo, which will be used to mark the milestone.
Mbira maestro Hope Masike is the honorary ambassador to the celebrations.
The embassy will also hold corporate social responsibility programmes, the Ambassador Contest, as well as a Korean Food Cooking event as part of its cultural exchange programmes.
In addition, the embassy will also exhibit at the annual Zimbabwe International Trade Fair for the first time.
