New SRC board appointed

The Minister of Sports, Recreation, Arts and Culture Lieutenant General (Rtd) Anselem Sanyatwe has appointed a new board for the Sports and Recreation Commission.

The new Commission, which will be led by Nathaniel Madzivanyika, will serve a four-year term starting on July 8.

In a press release, the Permanent Secretary for Sports, Recreation, Arts and Culture, Nicholas Moyo said Minister Sanyatwe has appointed a new SRC Board.

“The Minister of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture Honorable Lt Gen (Rtd) A.N Sanyatwe has appointed a new board for the Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) with effect from July 8 to July 2029, a strategic move underscoring the ministry’s commitment to ensure inclusive governance in the sector,” said Moyo.

He added that the new board has been tasked with guiding the strategic direction of SRC.

“The newly appointed, comprising distinguished individuals with a wealth of experience and expertise, is tasked with the critical responsibility of guiding the strategic direction of SRC.

“Their collective mandate will be to steer the SRC towards achieving its objectives of promoting and regulating sport and recreation in Zimbabwe, nurturing talent from grassroots to elite levels, improving sports infrastructure, enhancing athlete development programmes, strengthening governance in national sports associations, securing sustainable funding for sports initiatives and promoting all disciplines,” said Moyo.

Making up the new board are Nathaniel Madzivanyika (Chairperson), Gwinyai Mharapara, Hlengiwe Dube, Shingai Rhuhwaya, Givemore Madzoka, Valentine Mudenda, Lilian Chikara and David Simba.
Moyo congratulated the new board.

“The Ministry of Sports, Recreation, Arts and Culture congratulates the incoming board and anticipates a fruitful tenure dedicated to the advancement of sports and recreation for all Zimbabweans, as well as a period of accelerated growth and success for our athletes and all stakeholders within the sports and reaction fraternity,” said Moyo.

The new members take over from the Gerald Mhlothswa-led board, which served two-year terms twice.
