FIVE buffaloes straying from Save Conservancy in Bikita are terrorising villagers in Ward 22 of Chipinge.

The buffaloes which were first sighted in Gumira Village under Chief Musikavanhu’s area are now encroaching into Ward 24 where they are destroying crops as well as attacking villagers.

Chipinge Rural District councillor for Ward 22, Cllr Evelyn Mhuru confirmed that buffaloes are straying into the ward and urged villagers to be cautious.

“There are five buffaloes which strayed from the game park and have since destroyed our crops. They are attacking people as well.

“The buffaloes have also now moved to other areas near Mabhiza Business Centre where they are destroying crops. We have since notified ZimParks rangers to hunt them,” she said.

Cases of human and wildlife conflict are rife in Chipinge because of the porous Save Valley Conservancy.

The perimeter fence of the conservancy was vandalised and is yet to be repaired.
