FORMER national Under-20 midfielder, Sebastien Summerfield, says he is inspired to help township footballers realise their dreams.
Through his foundation, the 22-year-old has been donating football equipment in high-density suburbs.
Last week he was in Chitungwiza where he handed out football boots at MC 99 Academy.
“These kids in the ghetto are the next generation of footballers, and we have to give them the platform to shine,” he said.
“Unfortunately, a lot of people think that if you come from a certain area or a certain background you can’t make it in life. That is not true.
“It doesn’t matter where you come from, who your parents are, or where you were born. As long as you work hard, you can make it. Always believe in yourself. In life it’s the small things that count.”
Summerfield’s career has been blighted by injuries.
Before his injury, he tried to establish himself at Swiss second-tier side FC Kilchberg.
Despite that, he believes he can inspire budding footballers in Zimbabwe to realise their goals.
“This donation, in collaboration with Charity Boots UK and Kit Aid, gives these kids a glimmer of hope, maybe they can follow in the footsteps of fellow professional athletes,” said Summerfield
