Seasoned sungura singer Simon Mutambi and Zimdancehall chanter Kinnah – real name Maligakini Saizi – are set to lock horns on stage on July 29 in Mutare.
The gig is expected to be an explosive one, considering the two singers’ talent and popularity.
Mutambi’s camp told The Sunday Mail Online that the show will put to rest any doubts about sungura’s superiority.
“We have organised this show to entertain our fans, but, above all, to prove that sungura is the dominant genre in Zimbabwe.
“Mutambi is ready for the show and will ‘bury’ Kinnah on stage,” said Darlington Kachere, who is Mutambi’s manager.
“Sungura was there, is there and will always be there. Zimdancehall is bubble-gum music.”
Kinnah said he was up to the challenge.
“I respect sungura because it was there before Zimdancehall, but things have changed. Zimdancehall is producing more hits than any other genre in the country. We have the majority of followers,” said Kinnah.
“Besides battling for supremacy, these shows are good as they bring value to our fans. They get to enjoy the best of both worlds.”
The two artistes plan to hold a series of joint gigs in the future.
