NEW TECHNOLOGY AS PART OF JULIUS NYERERE WAY OPENS

A NEW road construction technology has been installed on a section of Julius Nyerere Way, which runs from the Main Post Office to Sam Nujoma Street in Harare’s CBD.

The stretch was officially opened to traffic yesterday after weeks of major roadworks as part of Government’s major road network rehabilitation projects.

Engineers have installed the latest asphalt base 150 millimetres thick, making it the first technology on Zimbabwean roads.

The new technology has a 20-year lifespan.

Transport and Development Minister Felix Mhona said the new infrastructure will go a long way in improving business in the CDB.

“The opening of the section signifies the working together of stakeholders to compliment President Mnangagwa’s mantra that ‘Nyika inovakwa neve vayo.’

“The amount of work and vastness that has been dedicated to this section has been tremendous and we applaud the engineers for doing a good job.

“We also have a technology that we are using, which is contemporary, and we are doing this rehabilitation for Zimbabweans and not SADC,” said Min Mhona.

He added:

“The good thing about the major road rehabilitation is that we are doing this using our own people and resources, which is something that is commendable.

“The media must also take part in showcasing what we can do as Zimbabweans and we need a holistic approach that involves all stakeholders.”
