A 17-year-old boy appeared in court for allegedly raping a 10-year-old minor in Tynwald South, Harare.
Harare magistrate Mrs Yeukai Dzuda remanded the juvenile suspect out of custody to January 31.
Prosecutor Mr Thomas Chanakira told the court that sometime in January 2019 during the morning, the complainant was sent by her mother to call her brother, who was not at home.
She then met the accused person, a friend to the brother, who informed her that his brother was at their home.
When the complainant entered the dining room of the accused, she discovered that her brother was not in the house.
At that moment, the accused allegedly grabbed her by the hand and pulled her into the bedroom, which is divided by a curtain, and threw her on the bed facing downwards and raped her.
The complainant, however, screamed and used her finger to poke the accused in the eye, which allowed her to escape.
The matter came into light on January 11, 2022, when the complainant was sent by her mother in the company of her sister to call her brother, who was not at home.
On their way, they met the accused going the opposite way on the same road.
After passing the accused, the complainant told her sister that she had something important to tell her.
On arrival home, the complainant narrated her ordeal, leading to the arrest of the accused.
