AN 18-year-old Mutare man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison after he was convicted of carjacking at gunpoint.

The convict, Pardon Tsingano, and his accomplice Brighton Kasamba (22) went on to sell the car – a Honda Fit – for US$1 600 in Guruve.

According to the State, the accused persons hired the complainant to ferry them from Mudzviti to Fairbridge Park in Mutare.

“The accused persons directed the complainant to drive to Shelley Road in Fairbridge Park.

“When they got there, the accused instructed the complainant to stop the vehicle. Upon stopping the vehicle, one of the accused persons produced a fake CZ pistol, which he pointed at the complainant.

“The other accused produced a knife and threatened to stab the complainant in the stomach,” said the State.

The complainant wrestled with the first accused and dispossessed him of the fake pistol.

“The two accused persons forcefully threw the complainant out of the stationary vehicle.

“The two drove off in the complainant’s Honda Fit at high speed.

“They later sold the Honda Fit in Guruve for US$1 600. The complainant made a report to the police, which led to the recovery of the vehicle.”
