NEW: Three Hurungwe Rural District Council bosses arrested

Mashonaland West Bureau

THE Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) anti-corruption unit on Monday arrested three top officials at Hurungwe Rural District Council.

Felistus Muteta, head of finance; Brighton Dube, internal auditor; and Chamunorwa Mapfumo, head of administration, spent the night at Karoi Police Station.

Sources close to investigations said the trio face many charges, including abuse of office by paying fees for their children at private schools instead of Government schools as required.

Last month, the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission arrested the council’s chief executive officer, Mr Luke Kalavina, and an engineer for fraud involving US$47 000.

Eng Romeo Mupamaonde, his assistant Alfred Makama, together with Batsirayi Nyamayaro, the director of Anstand Investments, were last week sentenced to 18 years in prison.
