A suspected armed robber believed to be behind the murder of a High Court Sheriff in Harare in 2019 during an armed robbery, Kingswell Ngwerume (32), allegedly teamed up with two other suspected armed robbers and a fellow inmate to take turns to sodomise another inmate.
This was after they forced the other inmate to drink an unknown substance while in their cell at Harare Central Remand Prison.
Ngwerume allegedly teamed up with suspected armed robber, Lazarus Chinobhururuka and fellow inmate Kudakwashe Mazorodze to sodomise the fellow inmate (20) in their cell at night.
The three were arrested and are expected to appear in court on aggravated indecent assault charges.
Ngwerume, who was once committed to the prison psychiatric unit, is waiting for trial on murder charges, while Chabhururuka is facing armed robbery charges.
Circumstances leading to their arrest are that on August 11, 2024, at around 1500hrs, the 20-year-old inmate and the trio went upstairs to sleep.
Mazorodze then allegedly told the 20-year-old to enter into Cell C2.
He complied and they added up to nine in that cell.
While they were sleeping, the 20-year-old man woke up at around midnight to find Ngwerume caressing his chest and manhood.
It is alleged that the trio then started assaulting him with fists and open hands all over the body.
Chinobhururuka allegedly fetched a bottle of liquid and forced him to drink the contents, leaving him feeling dizzy and powerless.
The trio then sodomised him several times.
The abused inmate lodged a complaint with prison authorities, leading to the trio’s arrest.
