NORTON-based Sunny Yi Feng, one of the country’s biggest tile manufacturers, is set to hold a consultative meeting with Zvimba residents as the Chinese-owned company further cements its relationship with the community.
The meeting, which was initiated by the Porta Manyame Farmers Association and residents of Ward 25, Zvimba East, will be held on February 17.
The main focus will be on the rehabilitation of the Porta Road.
The tile manufacturing company’s trucks use this road to transport sand and gravel in the area to its manufacturing plant, which is located along the Harare-Bulawayo road, just after Manyame Bridge.
Zvimba Rural District councillor for Ward 25, Mr Ruzai Muchaurawa, said the engagement was necessitated by the bad state of Porta Road.
“This company extracts sand and gravel from this ward and as a community, we are saying that the company should contribute towards the rehabilitation of the road.
“The Kwayedza Farm bridge has also been extensively damaged and we are hoping to find a way to have it rehabilitated,” Muchaurawa said.
Mr Leo Wang, an official with Sunny Yi Feng, confirmed the meeting.
“We periodically hold such meetings as we discuss developmental issues. During such meetings, we also discuss with the community how we can effectively implement our social responsibility programmes,” he said.
Officials from the Zvimba Rural District Council and the Environmental Management Agency (EMA), will also be part of the meeting.
