NEW: Tobacco sales yield US$253m

TOBACCO sales have generated US$253 million as at day 27 of the marketing season, latest figures from the Tobacco Industry and Marketing Board (TIMB) show.

Selling at an average of US$3 per kg, a total of 86 million kilogrammes of the golden leaf were sold.

A total of 1 093 644 bales have been sold since the beginning of the marketing season.

Auction floors have taken delivery of 8 million kg while contractors have contributed 78 million kg.
