LOCAL authority officials, business leaders, artists and other top achievers in various fields will receive accolades at the end of year Mashonaland Central Achievers Awards, to be held in Bindura on Saturday.
The red-carpet event will take place at the picturesque Kangara Resort Acadia Dam.
In an interview with The Sunday Mail Online, co-founder of the Mash Central Achievers Awards, Mr Umtali Saidi, said the awards seek to recognise contributions of individuals and organisations to the socio-economic progress of the province.
“The achievers will be selected in the categories of agriculture, rural community and urban development, arts, voluntary community service, mining, education, tourism and agriculture,” he said.
“It will be a way of endorsing people’s abilities and rewarding their achievements, taking into consideration particular projects of person or groups.”
Mr Saidi said the event will also provide a platform to network.
Mashonaland province has produced some of Zimbabwe’s finest sons and daughters in the fields of business, arts and sports.
With this in mind, nominees for the Life Time Achievement Awards, who hail from the province include national hero and late music superstar, Oliver Mtukudzi, sungura maestro, Alick Macheso, and Zimdancehall icon, Freeman.
Business leaders that have been nominated include, Dr James Makamba and Mr Kenneth Musanhi, among others, while in sport, the late legendary sprinter, Artwell Mandaza, is one of the candidates.
Companies that have received nominations include, West Property Zim, Mazowe Citrus Estates, Delta Beverages, Pepsi, Afdis and Schweppes, in the best beverages company category.
Mobile network operators, Econet and NetOne, are also in line to get awards, with Mukuru and Inn-Bucks, in the running for best money remittance companies.
In the education sector, primary schools that have been nominated include Mbebi Primary in Mazowe District; Chiwaridzo Primary and Nyandoro Primary in Guruve district, Mai Mugabe Group of Schools, S.O.S Hermann Gmeiner High Bindura, Mazowe High, as well as Chifamba High.
Other individuals in line to receive awards include ZANU PF youth leader, Mr Ryan Dokwani and retired top detective, Mr Joseph Nemaisa.
