First released in 1968, the legendary Toyota Hilux has been a dominant presence in the global pick-up market for 50 years.

To date, the world’s favourite pick-up has recorded cumulative global sales of over 18 million units.

Renowned for its quality, durability and reliability, the Hilux continues to amaze as it conquers the Dakar Rally Raid.

Available in Single Cab, four-seat extra Cab and five-seat Double Cab body styles, the 8th generation Hilux builds on this legendary reputation and invincible QDR, redefining toughness for business users with a new and stronger ladder chassis, a reinforced deck structure, enhanced 4×4 capabilities and an improved towing capacity.

At the same time, Hilux responds to a growth in pick-up leisure usage in recent years with a new, contemporary design, greater comfort, advanced equipment and improved safety, making it more stylish and stress-free to drive than ever.

Fulfilling user requirements for both a durable business workhorse and a stylish, comfortable leisure 4×4, Hilux has been designed to offer all its customers significant improvements.

The vehicle has workhorse toughness and rugged durability combined with new-found levels of refinement and the looks even business users can be proud of.

Although lower in capacity than its predecessors, Toyota’s newly developed 2,4 and 2,8 D-4D Global Diesel engines are combining vastly improved torque delivery in the low and medium speed ranges with class-leading fuel economy.

The new, 16 valve, DOHC four-cylinder engines are equipped with a variable nozzle turbocharger with intercooler. The 2,393 cm3 2,4 D-4D unit generates 110 kW at 3,400 rpm, and maximum torque of 400 Nm between 1,600 and 2,000 rpm.

The 2,755 cm3 2,8 D-4D unit generates 130 kW at 3,400 rpm, and maximum torque of 450 Nm between 1,600 and 2,400 rpm. Two – wheel drive versions are mated to an improved 6-speed manual transmission, whilst all – wheel drive models offer a choice of the improved 6-speed manual gearbox or a new 6-speed Super ECT automatic transmission.

With fuel efficiency improved by some 14 percent over the larger capacity engine it replaces, the new GD engines returns class-leading fuel economy figures as low as 7,3 l/100 km.

In combination with reduced services costs, the superior fuel efficiency and reduced running costs, the new powertrain offers customers Best-in-Class Total Cost of Ownership.

The new 2,4 and 2,8 GD D-4D incorporates a comprehensive range of measures designed to save weight, enhance combustion efficiency and reduce friction.

Toyota Hilux, since it was first introduced in 1968, has consistently been the best-selling pickup truck in Africa. At first, the Hilux was simply seen as a more economical alternative to the traditional work trucks of the day, but Hilux quickly established itself as a capable performer, not only in cargo capacity, but interior comfort.

Today’s Toyota Hilux is truly a multipurpose vehicle, including multiple engine and transmission options, four-wheel drive option, as well as creature comforts more akin to those in even high-end sedans and SUVs.

Toyota’s attention to detail, specifically the changing needs of the African driver, has kept the Hilux on the edge.
