THE Government has acquired four state-of-the-art emergency ambulances and seven robust tractors for airside maintenance for the Airports Company of Zimbabwe (Private) Limited at the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport and other airports around the country.
The ambulances and tractors were commissioned by Transport and Infrastructural Development Minister Felix Mhona in Harare yesterday.
The Minister was accompanied by permanent secretary Engineer Joy Makumbe, legislators, ACZ board chairperson Advocate Tich Muhonde, ACZ chief executive Mr Tawanda Gusha, ACZ board members, Aviation Ground Services board chairman Mr Musekiwa Kumbula and senior Government officials.
According to ACZ, the ambulances and tractors will be used to enhance the safety, efficiency, and overall quality of aviation infrastructure.
The ambulances, equipped with the latest medical technology, will be strategically positioned at the airports to ensure swift and effective response in the event of any medical emergencies.
Similarly, the acquisition of the seven new tractors will significantly bolster the airside maintenance capabilities.
In his address, Minister Mhona said: “These ambulances, equipped with the latest medical technology, will be strategically positioned at our airports, to ensure swift and effective response in the event of any medical emergencies.
“The safety and well-being of all airport users, our passengers, staff, and stakeholders remain our paramount concern, and these ambulances are a testament to that commitment”.
Similarly, he said, the acquisition of seven new tractors will significantly bolster airside maintenance capabilities.
Minister Mhona said efficient and well-maintained airfields are crucial for seamless flight operations.
“These tractors will ensure the upkeep of our runways, taxiways, and other critical airside areas, contributing to the smooth flow of air traffic and the safety of all aircraft movements,” he said.
Harare Metropolitan Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister Senator Charles Tawengwa also commended the Airports Company of Zimbabwe for its commitment to enhancing efficiency in emergency service delivery at all airports, especially at Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport.
