Traffic Safety Council of Zimbabwe (TSCZ) and the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) have jointly deployed 25 mobile road campaign teams on all the country’s major roads to prevent road accidents during the Heroes’ Day and Defence Forces Day holidays.
The road safety awareness campaign themed “Watch the kilometre ahead” will start on Friday and run until August 10.
TSCZ board chairperson Mr Kura Sibanda urged motorists to be cautious.
“As the country gears up for the Heroes holiday, it is important once again to highlight the significance of road safety. What we are basically saying to our drivers is that be mindful of the dangers on the road on the kilometre you are about to approach.
“We have deployed 25 mobile teams along our major roads across the country,” he said.
Most traffic accidents, he added, are caused by human error.
“2022 had its share of fatal accidents; as we build up to the Heroes and Defence Forces holidays, we have had five fatal accidents that have claimed over 20 people.
“During the upcoming holidays where we remember our gallant sons, we aim to minimise the number of road fatalities and road injuries by way of physical and media awareness campaigns across the country.”
