NEW: Treasury dismisses fake Facebook account

Online Reporter

THE Ministry of Finance and Economic Development has warned the public of fraudsters using a fake Facebook account under the name ‘Ministry of Finance and Economic Development (MoFED)/Zimtreasury’.

Owners of the fake Facebook account are reportedly inviting entrepreneurs to submit applications for financial aid as part of a purported economic recovery programme in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic.

In a statement on Thursday, the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development said it has nothing to do with the account.

“The public is advised that the message is false and should be disregarded. This is the work of mischievous, indolent, malevolent and irresponsible (people) bent on taking advantage of fellow citizens whilst tarnishing the image of Government and that of the USAID,” reads the statement.

“The ministry further wishes to advise the public that they must always check the authenticity of such information before sharing personal details.”
