NEW: Truck driver up for smuggling Broncleer

A 43-year-old truck driver has been arrested along the Harare-Chirundu Road after being found in possession of several boxes of Broncleer cough syrup.

The suspect, Kudakwashe Jimu, is believed to have smuggled the boxes into the country.

Broncleer cough syrup, popularly known as Bronco, is an over-the-counter cough medicine that is abused by drug users to get high.

National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the arrest in a statement.

“Police in Chirundu intercepted a haulage truck at the 269-kilometre peg along Harare-Chirundu Road and arrested the driver, Kudakwashe Jimu, aged 43, for unlawful possession of boxes of Broncleer Cough Syrup,” he said.

Investigations are in progress.
