aware of any links to Scottish giants Glasgow Celtic and a transfer to German side Hoffenheim was still “50-50.”
Until now, Musona’s move to the German Bundesliga had appeared cast in stone with the only hitch being the small matter of the value that Hoffenheim have to pay Kaizer Chiefs for their best player.
Kaizer Chiefs manager Bobby Motaung even mentioned that Celtic were in the race to sign Musona.
But the situation is changing rapidly, amid reports that Hoffeinheim, angry that they had been dragged into an auction when they were the first club to agree to sign the player in principle, had halved their offer from R15 million to about R8 million and told Chiefs to either take it or leave it.
Yesterday Musona told KickOff, in a video interview, that he was unaware of the offer from Celtic and was not even upbeat about his chances of moving to the German club saying it was a 50-50 situation.
“Kaizer Chiefs striker Knowledge Musona rubbishes reports that he is going to Glasgow Celtic, but says the Germany move is ‘fifty-fifty’ at the moment,” KickOff reported on their website.
“The Zimbabwean humbly insists he has heard nothing about the Celtic move from the Chiefs technical team.”
Another South African-based football website, MTN, also ran with the breaking story.
“Kaizer Chiefs striker and last season’s top goal scorer in the PSL, Knowledge Musona, is hot property at the moment and there are stories speculating that two high profile clubs in Europe are after him,” said MTNfootball.com.
. The player himself, however, has rubbished rumours of one offer.
“They are just rumours at the moment, in the newspapers and internet. I haven’t heard anything from the technical team or from Bobby (Motaung) about a Scotland move. The only thing I know of is Germany,” said the Zimbabwean international while speaking to MTNfootball.com.
“It would seem that two European clubs are highly interested in Musona.
“The first being Germany’s Hoffenheim who were the first to show interest in the talented striker and have offered a reported R13 million for him.
“But there has also been talk this week that Scotland’s Glasgow Celtic have noticed Musona and have offered R22 million for the player.
“Speaking to Musona, however, he only knows of the discussion between Kaizer Chiefs and Hoffenheim.”
Musona is quoted by MTNfootball saying he was also not aware about the proposed move to Scotland.
“I’m not sure if I will be at Chiefs next season. If my deals go through I will go, and if not I will stay, I am just waiting for the technical team to finalise the deals,” said Musona.
“So far I have only gone to Germany, and this thing of Scotland, no one has told me of it from the technical team.
“I will be very happy to move to Germany; Hoffenheim is good team, I was there a few weeks ago and I liked everything, the players, the coach and the facilities.
“I think it would be a good move for me to go there and I would be happy there.”
Hoffenheim’s General Manger Ernst Tanner said they were still keen to secure Musona.
“We are still in talks with Knowledge Musona and are attempting to find a solution.
“He is technically very good, quick, two-footed and integrated with the squad very well when he was on trial here.
“We know that Knowledge can sign more lucrative deals elsewhere, but Kaizer Chiefs are keen to conclude a deal with us in the hope we can co-operate on further deals in the future,” said Tanner. –
