VIXENS and JBC men continue to hog the headlines, as the title favourites stretched their unbeaten run during Week 19 of the Harare Basketball Association (HBA) Super Six League.

After losing their opening three matches of the campaign, defending Harare and National League champions Vixens are unbeaten in 16 matches, with their latest triumph being a narrow 61-60 win over UZ Sparks.

The win took the Harare giants to 35 points from 19 matches, opening a two-point gap over second-placed UZ Sparks.

Harare City Hornets moved to third position with a 74-28 win over JBC women, while Greenstars beat Bunnies 74-68.

Unfortunately, the win did very little to improve their position, as Greenstars still anchor the log standings with 22 points from 18 matches.

Despite the win and a one-rung move up for Hornets, they remain tied on points with JBC, as the two teams sit third and fourth, respectively, on the log standings.

JBC men, on the other hand, kept their perfect record by winning 72-48 over Bucs.

The win saw them stretch their lead at the top of the men’s log standings to nine points over second-placed Leopards Academy.

JBC are on 38 points from 19 matches, while Leopards Academy, who beat Foxes 73-68, are on 29 points from the same number of games.

The two teams seem to have cemented their top two positions, leaving the rest of the league to battle it out for survival.

The bottom-placed team gets automatically relegated, while the fifth-placed team has to go to a play-off against the team that finishes second in the HBA A-League.

UZ Stars, who lost their 15th match of the campaign to Harare City Hornets (37-64), currently anchor the men’s log standings with 23 points from 19 matches.

However, a single point separates third-placed Bucs (27) from Foxes (26), who currently occupy the play-off spot.

Bucs also happen to be tied on 27 points with Harare City Hornets.
