A TOTAL of five schools in Ward 12 of Mutare South have been earmarked for the installation of modernised water systems as part of plans to improve the beneficiaries’ water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) facilities.
The pilot project is being implemented at Shundure Secondary School in Marange.
Ward 12 representative in the local authority Councillor Pride Chadambuka confirmed the development, saying the initiatives are the brainchild of the local leadership and the school development committees.
“Villagers in the Ngomasha area of Ward 12 in Marange, Mutare South realised the need for effective WASH interventions and came up with this initiative in partnership with school development committees. A borehole has already been drilled at Shundure Secondary and will be powered by electricity. This is meant to provide learners with clean and safe water as they were fetching it from unprotected sources about a kilometre away. We are targeting to implement the initiative at four other schools in the area” he said.
Cllr Chadambuka commended the villagers’ commitment to ensuring the project’s success.
The other four schools earmarked for a similar development are Shundure, Mwandiambira, Zarahwa and Ngomasha primary schools.
