New website to revolutionise advertising

Zimbabwean initiative that offers a place to advertise goods and services for free.
According to the website’s developers, Tengesa.com can be used as a business tool which can help increase the amount of business that the average Zimbabwean does by helping them advertise.

To this extent they have made the innovation as user-friendly as possible.
“We realised that there are a lot of people that only have access to the Internet through their mobile phone, so the site was developed to be as user friendly on a mobile phone (even older models) as it is on a personal computer.

“The pages were designed with some basic rules in mind. Firstly, the site had to look clean and be easy to use as it might be one of the first websites that some Zimbabweans were to visit.
“Secondly, pages within the website had to be small and easy to navigate through. This speeds up the time it takes to open pages,” said a company representative.

The Tengesa.com project has now been running for just over a month and currently has close to 1 200 listed adverts for a range of different products.
Information and communication technology experts believe that the future of Internet in Zimbabwe and Africa generally is on the mobile platform.

There are currently about 15 million smartphones in use on the continent, a figure that is expected to rise to 150 million in four years.
Local mobile telecommunications provider Econet Wireless has said there are well over one million mobile Internet users on their network, and has just announced a huge deal that will result in extensive upgrades to their mobile Internet service.

This will provide further impetus for mobile Internet usage in the country both quantitatively and qualitatively.
