United Nations Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator Mr Edward Kallon has applauded the Government for championing the cause of children, youth and women in its fight against the effects of climate change.
Addressing guests at the Climate Change and Development Conference today, he said children and the youth must be considered when addressing climate change, not only as future leaders, but also as change makers.
“Given that children and young people are disproportionately affected by the environment, and economic change due to their physiological and developmental stage, it is very crucial that we put them at the centre of climate policies, strategies and plans,” said Mr Kallon.
He highlighted the need to broaden the conversation to include women and indigenous communities.
“We must recognise children and women not only as victims, but as essential stakeholders in our collective efforts to adapt to and mitigate climate change. Their insights and experience are invaluable as we work towards comprehensive solutions,” he said.
