THE Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) is now ready for Saturday’s by-elections in Harare East and Mt Pleasant constituencies, its chief elections officer, Mr Utloile Silaigwana, has said.

He told a media briefing in the capital on Friday that all the logistical arrangements are now in place for the by-elections to fill the vacancies that were created following the resignation of former CCC legislators Ms Fadzayi Mahere (Mt Pleasant) and Mr Allan Markham (Harare East).

In Harare East, ZANU PF’s Cde Kiven Mutimbonyoka will battle it out with Ropafadzo Cynthia Cheza, who is an independent candidate, while in Harare East, ZANU PF’s Cde George Mashavave will contest against Brian Tiki, who is also standing as an independent candidate.

“In terms of our state of preparedness, I can confirm that we are ready to facilitate voting for those who are registered in these two constituencies,” Mr Silaigwana said.
