New Zifa executive praised

THE newly elected Zifa executive committee, led by businessman Nqobile Magwizi, has made a promising start by committing to pay the Mighty Warriors’ training allowances ahead of their Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Angola.

Veteran women’s football coach Evans Netha praised the executive’s gesture.
“It’s a good start for me that they have made this gesture. They are recognising women’s football, which is very important.

“Such things help in terms of how the team performs and inspire others to fight to be in the national team,” said Netha.
He also commended the executive’s commitment to equal pay, saying:

“The new executive is saying what we have always called for – that there should be no difference between how the men’s and women’s teams are treated.

There are no differences; the rules are the same and the ball is the same.”
Football blogger Buhle Ncube also praised the gesture.

“It’s good that the new executive is making efforts to take care of our women’s national team ahead of this crucial assignment,” said Ncube.

However, Ncube challenged the executive to prioritise women’s grassroots football.
“My challenge to them is to prioritise women’s grassroots football and also support the clubs that develop these players. Once we empower the clubs, women’s football will change.”
