HOUSING Co-operatives Union’s national president, Mr Micah Reketai Duru, is basking in the glory of scooping the prestigious United States of America Overseas Co-operative Development Council International Cooperative Champion Award.
The award was presented to Mr Duru recently for his sterling efforts in promoting co-operatives and the co-operative models in Zimbabwe.
Commenting on the award, the Mutare-based Mr Duru said: “The award has attracted a lot of interest on cooperative work in Zimbabwe. Inquires are coming from development partners in energy, agriculture and health cooperatives. With the President, His Excellency, President ED Mnangagwa’s Zimbabwe is Open for Business mantra, the cooperative movement in Zimbabwe is poised for growth.”
In her communication to Mr Duru, US Overseas Co-operative Development deputy executive director, Ms LuAnn Warner, stated: “Johnson Andinda of HealthPartners nominated you for the US Overseas Co-operative Development Council (OCDC) International Co-operative Award. After careful review of all nominations, we are pleased to announce that you have been selected as the 2023 recipient of the award. The review committee was pleased with your work and extra efforts in promoting co-operatives and the co-operative model.”
