THE recent wet spell experienced in various parts of the country has boosted water levels, with the country’s major dams now 91,9 percent full on average.
The national dam level had risen from 91,2 percent as at April 13, 2022 to 91,9 percent as of April 22, 2022.
Zimbabwe National Water Authority (Zinwa) corporate communications and marketing manager Mrs Marjorie Munyonga said, “The current wet spell being experienced in various parts of the country has pushed up water levels in the country’s major dams-level average to 91,9 percent.
“This has improved water level records in dams such as Tugwi-Mukosi, Mutirikwi, Mazowe, Amapongokwe, Sebakwe, Gwenoro, Mwenje, Masembura, Chivero, Manyame, Seke and Biri.”
She said positive changes in water levels point to improved water security for the upcoming winter cropping season and domestic water supplies for major towns and cities.
Department of Civil Protection director Mr Nathan Nkomo said communities that live downstream of major water bodies must always be wary.
“In the event that there is a flood we are on guard to monitor the situation and ensure there is an open gate ready.”
