ZIMTRADE has urged local exporters to tap into opportunities availed by the Qatar market, particularly for the horticultural and Halaal meat market.
ZimTrade is the national trade development and promotion organisation.
ZimTrade carried out a market scan of Doha (capital of Qatar) between July 23 and 27 this year, to explore opportunities for local products, with a special focus on horticulture.
The scan sought to gather relevant information, identifying specific information on available export opportunities for Zimbabwean exporting firms.
It also looked at consumer behaviour and buying patterns in Qatar.
said ZimTrade:
“Opportunities are vast in Qatar for horticultural produce, since the country is a net importer.
“The retailers and distributors engaged preferred high-quality produce and are willing to consider Zimbabwean products.
“Throughout the scan, our blueberries were a common feature in the high-end retail outlets.”
The national trade promotion body also said Qatar offers opportunities for the supply of meat and meat products for certified Halaal abattoirs and butcheries.
The goal to widen Zimbabwe’s exports is in tandem with the National Export Strategy, whose key strategic goal is to increase total exports by at least 10 percent annually, from US$4 billion in 2018 to US$7 billion by 2023, and to US$14 billion by 2030.
