GOVERNMENT says the recently opened Makona Ranger Station in Hwange National Park will help to intensify the fight against poaching.
The facility was constructed by the Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority with assistance from the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) under a US$5 million five-year conservation agreement.
Speaking during the official launch of the facility, Minister for Provincial Affairs and Devolution for Matabeleland North Province Richard Moyo said the ranger camp will ensure timely reaction to cases of poaching.
“I cannot overemphasise the need for collective action to achieve win-win scenarios for nature and people facing the brunt of living with wildlife,” he said.
“Rangers can now swiftly respond to cases of human-wildlife conflict as well as issues to do with poaching.”
