A LOCAL non-profit organisation, 4-H, has been nominated for the NGO of the year award by Peace and Sport, a global organisation that has the Prince of Monaco as its principal.

Peace and Sport celebrates individuals and organisations using sport to foster peace across the world.

The John Muchenje-led 4-H earned the nomination through its Youth4Peace tournaments, which have seen members of rival political parties playing sport together.

In May 4-H hosted a tournament where various political parties played a series of netball and soccer matches.

In a letter seen by The Sunday Mail Online, Peace and Sport said 4-H has made the top three nominees in the world.

“Due to the numerous high-level applications and meaningful initiatives, we experienced a very tough selection process, and we are pleased to inform you that 4-H Zimbabwe Foundation has been successfully selected as one of the three nominees for the NGO of the year Award category,” the letter read.

The final determination will be made by the Jury Committee led by Brazilian football legend Raí (Souza Vieira de Oliveira) and will be announced at an awards ceremony in Monaco, France on November 30.

An invite has been extended to the 4-H to share their experiences and work in front of an audience with interests in using sports for peace.

Mr John Muchenje, the 4-H executive director, said he is humbled by the nomination.

“We are grateful that our Youth4Peace sporting initiatives are yielding results on the international platforms,” he said.
