NEW: Zimbabwe administers 4,5m doses

The country’s vaccination blitz continues to gather momentum, with 4,5 million doses having been administered to date.

Addressing the latest post cabinet meeting, Information and Broadcasting Services Minister Monica Mutsvangwa said the Government vaccination programme continues to make huge strides.

“As at 6th September, 2021, a total of two million seven hundred and twenty-nine thousand nine hundred and fifty-five (2 729 955) persons had received the first dose, while one million seven hundred and twenty-eight thousand seven hundred and ninety-seven (1 728 797) had received their second Covid-19 vaccine dose.

“These figures translate to a national coverage of 31,9 percent for the first dose, and 20,2 percent for the second dose.”

With 4,5 million doses having been administered, Zimbabwe’s roll out plan has attracted plaudits from across the world.

Government has also already paid for at least 12 million Covid-19 vaccines.

Private sectors have also joined the vaccination drive.

Zimbabwe is now ranked 7th on the continent in terms of Covid-19 vaccinations.
