THE Zimbabwe Chess Federation (ZCF) received a major boost after Minerva Risk Advisors committed to a long-term sponsorship of the Zimbabwe Chess Open tournament.

The company’s chief executive officer, Ms Lydia Tanyanyiwa, said the partnership with ZCF is meant to develop local sport.

“We are happy with the partnership we have had with ZCF over the last four years,” she said.

“We are committed to a long-term partnership with ZCF and ensure that we play a part in the development of the sport locally and internationally.”

Minerva Risk Advisors provided more than US$7 000 as a sponsorship package for this year’s edition, with winners in the male and female categories expected to walk away with US$1100 and US$1 000, respectively.

More than 200 chess players from across the country and those from across the region are taking part.

The tournament started on Wednesday.
