Tobacco farmers have so far grossed US$295 million from both the auction and contract floors, which is, however, lower than US$325 million realised during the same period a year ago.

Latest data from the Tobacco Industry and Marketing Board (TIMB) shows that as of May 20, 99,3 million kg of tobacco had been sold at an average price of US$2,98 per kg compared to 120 million kg last year.

Of the 99 million kgs, contract tobacco accounts for 92,4 million kg, while auction floors account for 6,8 million kgs.

The highest price achieved to date is US$6,50 per kg, while the lowest price was $0,10 per kg.
