THE country’s national trade development and promotion agency – ZimTrade – has issued a scam alert of bogus social media accounts and individuals impersonating the agency’s officials.
In a statement this morning, ZimTrade distanced itself from the scammers who are masquerading as an investment firm.
Warning the public and business community to be alert, the agency said it is working with authorities to unmask the impersonators.
“We have noted with concern the fake social media groups and communities, some using the “ZimTrade Investments” as well as the ZimTrade name and logo. These groups are managed and their content being circulated by persons using the numbers: +234 803 236 9061, +27 81 445 8706, +44 7418 362595 and +1 573 518 5091. These individuals are impersonating ZimTrade officials and masquerading as an investment firm, encouraging business and individuals to join a bogus WhatsApp group and follow an unreliable link.
“As ZimTarde, we would like to advise our stakeholders and business community that we are not in any way associated with these groups and any content generated by these individuals. As such, we encourage you to ignore their messages as there is high risk that these are con men likely to dupe people of their hard-earned money,” reads the statement.
ZimTrade urged its stakeholders to contact the agency directly through its official communication channels and social media platforms to report any contact with the bogus individuals so that their identities are established.
The agency reiterated its commitment to supporting stakeholders in energising Zimbabwe’s export growth.
