THE price of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) has marginally gone up in both local currency and US$ while that of fuel has also been reviewed by Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA), with the cost of diesel dropping in US$ and that of petrol increasing in the same currency.
However, the price of both diesel and petrol has slightly risen in local currency.
A litre of diesel now costs US$1,63 down from US$1,65 while petrol is going for US$1,53 up from US$1,50. The prices in local currency are $1 147,01 up from $1 119,82 and $1 080,01 up from $1 016,49 for diesel and petrol respectively. For LP gas, a kg is now pegged at US$1,91 up from US$1,83 and going for $1 344,74 up from $1 208,58 in local currency.
The energy sector regulator announced the new prices for January in a notice to the public this morning and they take immediate effect. ZERA had last reviewed the prices in December.
Reads the notice: “Stakeholders are advised that the fuel prices for diesel and blend are as follows: diesel 50: US$1,63 and $1 147,01 per litre; petrol: US$1,53 and $1 080,01 per litre. PG prices for January, calculated according to the Petroleum (Liquid Petroleum Gas Pricing) Regulations 90 of 2021 are as follows: US$1,91 per kg and $1 344,74 per kg.
“Operators are advised to display the prices at their retail outlets at a prominent place in clearly legible letters. Please, note that it is permissible to sell LPG at prices below the prescribed prices depending on one’s trading advantages.”
