THE Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF) Company has announced the appointment of a new eight-member board of directors, with prominent business executive Dr Busisa Moyo retained as chairman.
The appointments, which took effect on 8 September are expected to provide strategic oversight to the country’s premier international trade exhibition as it seeks to deepen its role in driving trade, investment and industrial development.
According to a public notice, Dr Moyo will serve as chairman while Mr Promise Ncube has been appointed vice chairman.
The other directors are Mr Baron Gaule, Mr Bukhosi Mpofu, Ms Phoebe Nyabunze, Dr Sipilwe Dhlakuseni-Ndebele, Mr Joseph Sikhosana and Mr Larry Mukombwe.
The latest appointments are in terms of Article 79, read together with Articles 73, 80, 81 and 84 of the Articles of Association of ZITF.
The notice said the board was constituted in accordance with Article 73, which provides that the number of directors, excluding alternate directors, should not be fewer than two and not more than 10.
It also clarified the governance structure governing appointments, saying Government nominates half of the directors while the Bulawayo Agricultural Society nominates the other half.
“In terms of Article 84, the Chairman of the Board is a nominee of the Government of Zimbabwe,” the notice said.
All directors retire annually at the Annual General Meeting but are eligible for re-election, according to the notice.
The appointment of the board reinforces the dual public-private governance structure of ZITF, whose operations are closely linked to the Government’s industrialisation and investment agenda while maintaining its institutional connection with the Bulawayo Agricultural Society.
With Zimbabwe pushing for increased value addition, export growth and regional market integration, ZITF has an important role in connecting domestic producers with international buyers, investors and technology providers.
The trade fair has also become an important business networking platform, with its exhibitions increasingly extending beyond the traditional showcase function to facilitate investment leads, commercial partnerships and industrial linkages.
The latest board is expected to oversee the institution as it seeks to build on the momentum generated by recent editions and strengthen Bulawayo’s position as a regional trade and investment hub.
