THE Zimbabwe Tertiary Institutions Sports Union (ZTISU) Games kicked-off today at Mutare Polytechnic and will run up to Sunday.

All tertiary institutions from across the country are converging for the sports fete.

Speaking at the official opening of the games at Mutare Polytechnic today, the principal, Poniso Watema, urged all athletes to be at the forefront of the noble effort of unifying the Zimbabwean society and eradicate gender imbalances through sport.

“When properly managed, sport can act as a unifier; a feat that is not easily achievable through other means. During these games, I want to challenge all participants to have respect for rules, respect for competitors and, respectful dialogue can transcend all differences and lead to unbelievable and extraordinary outcomes.

“This is what the games are all about, to build a better society. This can only be achieved if we continue to interact through sport. I urge all athletes to be at the forefront of this noble effort of unifying our beloved Zimbabwean society and eradicating gender imbalances. Let us make this edition of the ZTISU games a special one by proving to ourselves and the world at large, ladies and gentlemen, that together we can achieve the extraordinary through sport.”

Delta Beverages are the official sponsors of the games through their Black Label brand.

Speaking on behalf of Delta Beverages regional manager (Lager Division), Lucky Nkunzane, regional sales manager, Chirara, said the company celebrates its fourth year of sponsoring the ZTISU Games in Zimbabwe and vows to continue doing their diligent work towards the games.

“Carling Black Label celebrates the fourth year of sponsorship of the ZITSU Games, and we are thrilled to continue to reward the champions at play,” said Nkunzane.

He said sport plays an important part in community development and aligns well with the Carling Black Label manifesto, that encourages and rallies people to be better versions of themselves.

“Over the years, this Carling Black Label property has grown in popularity as the sport is a passion point for many of our consumers, and it resonates very well with them across all demographics. Most of the ZTISU games are played around our valued customers premises, thereby cementing a natural bond for our traders, the brand, and the champions

“Carling Black Label will not only reward the top performers but will also recognise the efforts of the teams by sponsoring kits for the two finalists in the football category, the winning institution in pool will each receive a pool table, while the winners in darts will receive a branded dart board,” said Nkunzane.
