ZUPCO Netball Queens have congratulated the national women cricket team for making it to the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifier 2024.
Slated for the United Arab Emirates (UAE) early next year, the Lady Chevrons secured a spot after winning all their five matches at the just-ended ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier 2023 in Entebbe, Uganda.
“We are proud of what our fellow women did. They emerged champions of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier is no small feat, thumbs up to them,” said ZUPCO Netball Queens Captain Harusiyi Chitavati.
“They are an inspiration to all of us as a nation and it shows that the future of women in sports is bright.”
Lady Chevrons Veteran Precious Marange was named the Player of the Tournament after amassing 13 wickets in 51 runs while Modester Mupachikwa bagged the Best Batter accolade with 131 runs at an average of 43.67.
“This is big not only for the team but the nation as a whole, it is a sign of dedication, sacrifice and skill,” she said.
Zimbabwe and Uganda joined Ireland, Netherlands, Scotland, Sri Lanka, Thailand, United States of America, Vanuatu and the hosts UAE at the global qualifier to decide the final two spots at the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024.
Australia, Bangladesh, England, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa and West Indies had already qualified for the main championship.
“Hats off to the lady Chevrons, a place at the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifier means a lot, you have our full support, we rally behind you,” added Chitavati.
